A local sportsman released Merriam Turkeys into the wild near Calgary, Alberta. This act did not sit well with the Provincial Government. It was an illegal act! Efforts to recage the turkeys proved fruitless. Those not caught by humans were caught by coyotes. A legal release on the Sheep River also served as fodder for the coyotes there. Some feathers rejected by Sheep River coyotes are now at my fly-tying and carving bench. A release in the southern foothills of the province has met with success. A limited hunting season exists. Producing a large male in full display could be gratifying. |
