An experienced carver once told me, keep it simple stupid. That bit of advice came back to me several times as I struggled with my Sonic Boomer. The wings were anything but simple. One set was discarded because I could not eliminate the wood grain. The sculptor continued having to redo different aspects. I think making the same mistake over and over is a sign of ... stupidity. A natural drumming log would have been too simple. Using dense foam, plywood, fibreglass and paint, an artificial one was created. In the end the Ruffie was indifferent. He took to the log whether or not much grey matter had been involved. |
